mayo clinic logoThe Division of Infectious Diseases and The Mayo Ortho ID Focus Group has an Orthopedic Infectious Diseases fellowship position available starting July 2012.

The eligible candidate should be a highly qualified BC/BE Infectious Diseases physician. This fellowship program provides a unique opportunity to train physicians in an increasing area of need: the prevention and medical management of musculoskeletal infections. There are very few centers in the US or internationally that have such an accumulated expertise in orthopedic infections as Mayo Clinic. This clinical practice is under the guidance of an experienced Orthopedic Infectious Diseases focused faculty. Clinical and research responsibilities will include an opportunity to focus on areas of special interest within Orthopedic Infectious Diseases. The length of the training is 12 months. A fellow’s schedule consists of 6 months of clinical (including 1 month elective time) rotations and 6 months of research.

We expect graduates from this program to be proficient in the diagnosis, management and prevention of all types of musculoskeletal infections. We also anticipate graduates to be attractive candidates for subsequent academic career opportunities.

The Orthopedic ID fellowship is approved as an additional year of training for J-I visa holders who have not completed their 7 year limitation.
